The Untitled Update
I wrote this tonight... I would love constructive criticism, or anything of the sort.
I am not sure where this came from, honestly, so I have no reasoning.... it was very sudden.
I am not sure where this came from, honestly, so I have no reasoning.... it was very sudden.
Blood dripping, Skin parting, Blades Flashing, Shields banging, Warriors slay, Horses neigh, Beasts fall, People crawl, Womens' tears fill the alter, Mens' roars refuse to falter. Animals' cries echo the night, Quiet under stampedes of flight, When will the battles end? How can these minds mend? Lost children fill under the darkened skies, Crying as they lament saying their goodbyes. |

My 2nd Restart with Mint
Since my latest update, I've done a lot of tweaking and various changes, and I've hit a lot of bugs when trying to set specific settings.
Here are some various images with explanations:
Notice the Data and Music Drive... it's in NTFS format, and must be mounted each time, so I put all the music inside the Music folder of the OS.
This is Open Office's version of Excel, a Database editor, basically. It's sleek, looks good, works a lot like Excel, and looks very good.
This is the Desktop changer, called the cube. There is a beautiful 3d Rotation animation when you hold CTRL+ALT+Arrow key.
Then you have this, which I think is simply Epic.
That's right. It's across the desktop.
My First Real Linux Experience
Some who read this will be trying to figure out, simply put, why the **** I chose to install Linux over the 'god' of OS's, Windows...
The reasons grew as Summer ended, and I can back everything you throw at me up with a reason. One, was that I'm looking for something new. I've been using Windows since I got my first computer, and now that I have obtained this wonderful Cable internet, I can play with Linux without a Flash Drive or any other transfer device.
Another reason is I've almost gotten out of gaming for now. I'm now basically a casual gamer, playing Diablo 2 occasionally, and when I get really bored I log into Steam and play some Counter-Strike: Source.
Those two reasons are, in my opinion, enough. Then you add on the fact that Windows decided to crash and burn over me simply removing Peerguardian 2, and that was, as cliché as it sounds, the final straw. It decided to not let me get into my Network Connections, wouldn't connect to AIM/Xfire or any torrent peers. Yeah, that ticked me off.
So I downloaded this wonderful Distribution of Linux called: Mint. Linux Mint. All about the beauty and elegance, it looks simply amazing.
I won't go into any technical information about it, that's all over the web. In fact, search the web on the right side of my blog here for it, if you want.
Here we go, into why I love it:
I'm running it on an AMD Sempron 2200+ that is rated at approximately 1.5GHZ, running 768MB of RAM, an AGP 4x (slots at 4, card is rated for 8) Geforce 6200 with 256 on-board RAM, with 2 160GB maxtor drives.
Mint is partitioned on a 58 GB partition originally intended for movies, while the ditched copy of XP is still on the remaining 100GB. I'm going to, sooner or later, test Vista on it, using the bootloader trick to get a bootloader for Linux even though it was installed first.
When I first started using it, LiveCD, not installed, the first thought that came to my head was how amazing it was running EVEN from a CD. Everything was working as fast if not faster than my bone stock Windows installations.
Okay. I have it installed. I have all that I truly need (Firefox+Pidgin) already installed. I take it up to go ahead and transfer my music. Here comes so far, my one of two or three complaints about the OS. It can't (easily at least) support .wma or similar formats.
The ONLY reason this is annoying to me is because when you are using the Rythmbox Media Player on the left, it will come up with tons and tons of errors if it's trying to load the files that it can't support, but it's not THAT big of a deal, in all reality, since .mp3 and other formats are much more common than .wma.
Next thing I did was start checking out the interface and various options. As of now, I have yet to unlock the full potential of this beautiful, gracious OS, (at least to me...) because I haven't restarted my computer. Lazy, eh? To turn all the extra spiffy graphical effects on, you have to have the special graphics drivers installed, and I have to restart for them to activate, so I'll make an edit or second post for that. =)
Once I finished that, I wanted to see how well it actually RAN on my system. Well, it runs superb when listening to Flyleaf (like the band matters :P), looking at Facebook, writing this out, Uploading pictures to use here, and with Pidgin open, waiting for Mara to get to Church, so all in all, I think it's very good with dedicating resources properly.
Now onto the Internet Browsing and downloading. So far, I have yet to have a problem outside of my own pure ignorance. When I updated it, I had yet to restart it and didn't realize it, so I was trying to figure out WTF was going on when I couldn't go to a new site, it would pop a 1X1CM box up in the middle of the page, and I had to extend it to see it. It was blank. Yay. A blank Tab. Yay. /dull
When you get a look at ALL of the simple to download programs and quick-to-learn interfaces, it makes everything sooo much better. I mean, in Windows, could you simply go here (right) to download any and everything you REALLY need? Didn't think so... you had to go on a journey. This thing has ratings, reviews, etc, not just downloads.
See why I already am in love with this beauty? Well, even if you don't, you're going to get more of a review later on.
First off, I'm going to say that nothing here do I take credit for making, nor anything else. All I did was add my name onto the desktop background to make it a bit more personal.
Second, thanks for showing your face here and reading this. =)

Ready for lift-off!
So after taking about an hour, trying to figure out a name, and various other blog settings, I took it up myself to make it... dum, dum, dum TEMPORARY!! XD
Okay, on a *bit* more serious of a note, I'm proud to announce that the blog is UP and that we are going to start posting on a (hopefully) steady basis, and my computer is back up and running properly (News on that later), so I'm finally in the right mindset.
It's not just going to be me posting, of course. My incredible girlfriend Mara (Willow_Rain) is my partner in crime (quite literally, I'd say).
Someone wanna hand me a sammich now?
